Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt made it official today that redshirt junior Bill Stull has won the starting quarterback competition and will be the Panthers starter when they take the field Aug. 30th in their opener against Bowling Green.
The move did not come as a surprise; Stull started the 2007 season as the team's starter before suffering a season-ending injury early in the season.
Wannstedt said the competition for the backup between sophomore Pat Bostick and redshirt sophomore Kevan Smith will continue for at least a few more days.
Also, starting outside linebacker Shane Murray has been sidelined for an indefinite period with a knee injury. Murray injured his knee Wednesday during practice and was on crutches at today's practices.
