Dr. Edmund Effort confirmed to state dentistry board
Sunday, July 20, 2008

When his appointment was confirmed by the state Senate recently, Dr. Edmund Effort joined the roster of African Americans who have served as a member of the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.

Dr. Effort, who practices in Pittsburgh, achieved the rank of colonel during 30 years as a dentist in the Air Force, from which he recently retired.

He was recommended for the post by Sen. Jim Ferlo, D-Highland Park, and will serve a six-year term on the board.

Correction/Clarification: (Published July 30, 2008) Dr. Edmund Effort, recently appointed to the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry, is not the first African-American on the board. This news brief as originally published July 20, 2008 was incorrect.
