Elton Brand left behind all those power forward battles in the Western Conference for some new tough ones in the East's Atlantic Division.
Brand signed with the Philadelphia 76ers yesterday, the biggest move on the first day NBA deals could be completed. A power forward was the 76ers' biggest need in free agency, and they got perhaps the best one available.
"I'm prepared to do some big things this year," Brand said. "They were one of the best teams in the second half of the season last year. I've been following them for a while and I see myself fitting in on the court."
After years of matching up with the likes of Tim Duncan and Dirk Nowitzki in the West, Brand landed in an Atlantic Division that features a Jermaine O'Neal-Chris Bosh tandem in Toronto and Kevin Garnett in Boston.
Raptors
Toronto added six-time All-Star Jermaine O'Neal to its lineup in a multiplayer deal with Indiana that sent guard T.J. Ford and center Rasho Nesterovic to the Pacers. The teams agreed to the deal in principle before the draft, but it couldn't be officially announced until yesterday.
The Raptors also acquired the draft rights to forward Nathan Jawai while the Pacers get forward Maceo Baston and the draft rights to center Roy Hibbert.
Bulls
Derrick Rose has had a rough summer league. Now it might be over. Chicago held its No. 1 overall pick out of a game yesterday with tendinitis in his right knee. It was the third of five games the Bulls and five other teams are playing over five days in Orlando, Fla. Rose said the injury, which dates to his college days at Memphis, wasn't serious.
Knicks
Chris Duhon signed a two-year deal worth more than $11 million, choosing New York over the Orlando Magic because of an opportunity to play in new coach Mike D'Antoni's system -- perhaps as the starter.
Grizzlies
Memphis signed Spanish center Marc Gasol, finishing off the final piece of a trade that sent his older brother, All-Star Pau, to the Los Angeles Lakers in February. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Bucks
Center Andrew Bogut will sign a five-year, $72.5 million extension later this week, his agent said. He was the top overall pick in 2005.
