Thomas Young, chartered life underwriter and registered financial consultant of 1st Consultants Inc., was approved for membership in the National Ethics Bureau and agreed to maintain its stringent membership standards.

Gateway Rehab won a gold medal from the Hermes Creative Awards 2008 competition in the media relations category for its "Media Highlights and More" video, which showcased Gateway's local and national news placements. And it earned an honorable mention award for its 2007 Annual Report. Both were produced by its public relations department.

Family Services of Western Pennsylvania won the Alfred W. Wishart Jr. Award for Excellence in NonProfit Management. The Forbes Funds provides the annual award and a $10,000 grant, which went to Family Services.

John H. Goodish, executive vice president and chief operating officer, United States Steel Corp., was named "Steelmaker of the Year" at AISTech 2008 -- The Iron & Steel Technology Conference and Exposition, managed by the Association for Iron & Steel Technology.

Joyce Rothermel, CEO of Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, was awarded the 2008 Frieda Shapira Medal, given by the Forbes Funds in cooperation with The Jewish Healthcare Foundation.

Pepper Hamilton LLP was included in the AmLaw 100, The American Lawyer's list of the top 100 law firms. The firm is ranked 88th nationally.

Eckert Seamans attorneys Roberta Jacobs-Meadway and Wendy West Feinstein were recently featured in the "Women in the Profession" supplement to The Legal Intelligencer and Pennsylvania Law Weekly.

Attorney Edgar Snyder was named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer, an honor awarded to the top 5 percent of statewide lawyers. Mr. Snyder is joined in earning the 2008 Super Lawyer distinction by His partners, attorneys Todd Berkey, Cynthia Danel, Richard Rosenthal and Michael Rosenzweig, also received the Super Lawyer designation.
