The Sports & Exhibition Authority board yesterday approved the final major contract needed to prepare the Hill District site for the new Penguins arena.

The $289,728 contract to demolish 1230 Colwell St., the former Beth Hamedrash Hagodol-Beth Jacob Congregation synagogue, went to Noralco Corp. SEA Executive Director Mary Conturo said demolition of the building, old streets and other infrastructure should start within weeks, leading toward a summer ground breaking.
