Friday, May 16, 2008

A man injured in a Downtown fire Wednesday died yesterday at UPMC Mercy.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office said Richard Piotrowski, 62, was pronounced dead at 5:17 a.m. in Mercy's burn unit.

He was hurt when a blaze broke out about 7 a.m. Wednesday in his apartment at the Roosevelt Arms on Penn Avenue.

The city arson squad said he caused the fire, which forced the evacuation of the building, by smoking while using oxygen.
