Supporters of the Y Music Society will pay their final respects to the venerable recital series in an invitation-only concert Monday at the Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill.
Facing financial difficulty in the 1990s, the series joined with the Pittsburgh Symphony in 2001, but three years later the concerts were reduced to one a season. Last year's recital with violinist Ilya Gringolts was the last time the PSO included a Y Music Society event in its programming.
The organization's first concert took place at the Bellefield Young Men's and Women's Hebrew Association in 1925 and over the years it featured many prominent classical musicians, such as pianist Vladimir Horowitz and violinist Isaac Stern, many in their Pittsburgh debut.
