Man shot outside Homewood bar

A patron was critically wounded in a shooting early yesterday outside of a Homewood bar, city homicide detectives said.

The 43-year-old victim, whose name was not released by police, was taken to UPMC Presbyterian, where he had emergency surgery for bullet wounds of the head and chest.

The shooting was reported at 1:53 a.m. Police arrived at the scene to find the victim lying on the floor of Earl the Pearl's bar in the 7200 block of Kelly Street.

Investigators said the man was shot while outside the bar, and he made his way inside seeking help.

No arrests had been made yesterday.

Witnesses described the suspect as a black man in his 20s.
