Swissvale Police Chief Henry James Ohrman has stepped down after 33 years on the force.

Mr. Ohrman began his career as a patrolman in 1975, then served as a lieutenant and acting chief. He was the chief for 15 years.

He was awarded a plaque for his service during a celebration following Swissvale council's May 7 meeting.

His successor will be named at a special meeting in Swissvale Council Chambers at 7 p.m. May 21.
