Rescuers find man who disappeared yesterday
Wednesday, May 14, 2008

A resident of an Indiana County personal care home who was missing overnight was found this morning, apparently with no serious injuries.

Searchers found Robert Buksa, 65, about 10:15 a.m. along railroad tracks a half-mile from Sun Rose Manor Assisted Living in Cherry Tree, said owner Ira Sunderland. It was not considered unusual when he left the 30-bed facility for a walk yesterday afternoon, Mr. Sunderland said, because Mr. Buksa enjoyed walking and always returned.

But after Mr. Buksa did not come back, authorities were contacted and a state police helicopter and members of police and fire departments and other volunteers carried out an extensive overnight search. Mr. Buksa was found several hundred yards from the nearest road, in an area that searchers had checked previously.

"Apparently, he just got disoriented and didn't know how to get back," Mr. Sunderland said.

Mr. Buksa, who has resided at Sun Rose Manor for 11 years, was not viewed as an Alzheimer's patient before the incident, Mr. Sunderland said. He was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Hospital in Johnstown for evaluation.
