Fayette County woman hurt escaping house fire
Wednesday, May 14, 2008

A Fayette County woman suffered a leg injury when she jumped from a window to escape a fire at her home in Bullskin early yesterday.

The 50-year-old woman told fire investigators that she was awakened around 2:30 a.m. by the smell of smoke in her home on Greenbrier Road.

Before trying to escape she went to alert her daughter-in-law, who was asleep in another room of the one-story wood frame house.

The fire temporarily trapped both women in the daughter-in-law's room. So the two women jumped from a window, said Larry Stillwagon, the township's first assistant fire chief.

Neither of the women's names was released.

The mother-in-law was taken to a hospital for treatment of a leg or ankle injury, Chief Stillwagon said.

Both women were treated for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.
