Police have taken a man into custody after a stabbing in the Crafton Heights left a woman in critical condition.
Police were called around 7:50 a.m. by a man who claimed to have stabbed and killed his girlfriend at a residence on Crafton Boulevard, Pittsburgh homicide Det. Lt. Kevin Kraus said in a press release.
Officers responded to the residence and found a woman, whose name has not been released, lying on the floor of the basement. She was bleeding profusely from wounds of the upper chest and neck, police said.
The woman was taken to Allegheny General Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. She was listed in critical condition this morning, police said.
Investigators identified the suspect as the woman's ex-boyfriend, William Broadus, 26, who lived at the Crafton Boulevard residence.
He fled the scene before police arrived, but officers found him later on Herschel Street in Elliott where he was taken into custody.
He was awaiting arraignment this morning on charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault, police said.
