Fishers released by the Pennsylvania Game Commission in 1994 in an initial attempt to reintroduce the furbearing predator, which had disappeared in the state by the early 1900s as a result of deforestation and unregulated trapping. The reintroduction of one of the largest members of the weasel family has been extremely successful. The agency is now considering a fisher management plan to sustain the population and control excess growth. The plan is posted at www.pgc.state.pa.us. Public comments will be accepted through June 1 via the Web site and Fisher Management Plan, Pennsylvania Game Commission, 2001 Elmerton Avenue, Harrisburg, PA 17110-9797.
