Work is scheduled to start Monday on two main streets serving the Eastside district, a focus of development in East Liberty.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will spend $3.1 million to reconstruct a total of 1.2 miles of Penn Avenue/Route 380, between Penn Circle and Fifth Avenue, and Fifth Avenue/Route 8, north to Frankstown Avenue.
PennDOT will impose intermittent single-lane traffic patterns on both Penn and Fifth between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays. Weekend and some night activity also will take place, occasionally affecting Port Authority bus stops.
Motorists should expect occasional delays while the work continues through October.
The contractor, John Gulisek Construction Co. of Mount Pleasant, will repair deteriorated concrete slabs, pave roadways, and make curb, sign, traffic signal, drainage and other improvements.
