National League
Reds 9, Cubs 0: Joey Votto, who had three home runs in the game, started a four-homer second inning off Chicago's Jon Lieber, making his first start of the season. Adam Dunn and Paul Bako also had solo shots, and Jerry Hairston Jr.'s two-run homer completed the rally in Cincinnati's shutout of the visiting Cubs.
Mets 12, Dodgers 1: John Maine became the first New York starter this year to reach the eighth inning, taking a shutout into the ninth in a rout of host Los Angeles and Brad Penny.
Marlins 6, Brewers 2: Florida rookie Burke Badenhop pitched 52/3 innings for his first major league victory, a win against visiting Milwaukee, who lost its fifth consecutive game.
Braves 5, Padres 2: Pinch-hitter Greg Norton broke a seventh-inning tie with a bases-loaded single and Atlanta Braves beat visiting San Diego for their fifth consecutive win. Tim Hudson (5-2) gave up six hits and two runs in seven innings. He walked three and struck out three. Manny Acosta recorded the final two outs for his third save.
Indians 3, Yankees 0: Cliff Lee threw seven sharp innings to beat Chien-Ming Wang in a matchup of unbeaten starters, leading the Cleveland Indians to victory against host New York. Lee became the first Indians pitcher to win his first six starts since Greg Swindell in 1988 and lowered his major league-best ERA to a microscopic 0.81. The left-hander has allowed just four earned runs in 44 2/3 innings after a rough 2007 that included a stint in the minors. Wang (6-1) allowed three runs and five hits in seven innings for the Yankees, who dropped to 3-5 on their nine-game homestand.
Athletics 6, Orioles 5: Mark Ellis hit his first career game-ending home run with two outs in the 10th inning, lifting Oakland past visiting Baltimore for a three-game sweep and its fourth consecutive victory. Ellis connected on a 1-0 pitch from loser Lance Cormier (0-1), a solo shot that hit the left-field foul pole and stayed fair. Ellis, batting seventh in Oakland's order for the second consecutive day, was in an 0-for-17 funk -- after career-worst 0-for-18 stretch earlier this season -- before he singled with two outs in the sixth. The home run was his third this year.
Blue Jays 6, Rays 2: Shaun Marcum came within an out of a shutout, Scott Rolen hit a two-run homer and Toronto beat visiting Tampa Bay. Marcum (4-2) walked one and struck out nine, allowing two runs in 82/3. He won back-to-back starts for the first time this season and lowered his ERA to 2.59.
Royals 9, Angels 4: David DeJesus and Alex Gordon both homered and Kansas City, the lowest-scoring team in the AL, banged out 14 hits in a victory against Jered Weaver and visiting Los Angeles. Weaver (2-5) had his worst start of the year, charged with a season-high eight runs in a season-low 3 1/3 innings. The right-hander gave up 10 hits and had one walk and one strikeout.
