Jessica Gable, a third-grader at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Scott, received a $100 U.S. Savings Bond for her winning entry, "My Dog Bella," in a canine poster contest sponsored by the Western Pennsylvania Kennel Association.

Ava Massetti, a second-grader at Our Lady of Grace, won a $50 bond for second place with her poster, "Walking My Dog." Both posters were displayed during the recent WPKA dog show in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

• A Calcu-Solve math competition for grades three and four featured 20 pupils from Carnegie and Crafton elementary schools who participated in individual and team competition.

The individual winners were Cara Price, grade four, of Carnegie, first place; Will Ford, grade three, of Carnegie, second place; Hunter Smutney, grade four, of Crafton, third place.

The team winners were Ian Kobistek, Abbie Snizik, Will Ford and Sofia Carrasco, all grade three, first place; Emma Gardner, Matthew Uzar, Cara Price and Hunter Smutney, all grade four, second place; Tyler McIntyre, Miranda Roessler, Sam Oliver and Amanda Griffin, all grade four, third place.

Lauren Pollastro, a seventh-grader at St. Joseph Catholic School in Coraopolis, won the prose category in a recent forensics competition among 25 Catholic schools. Adrianna Sciarrino, a fifth-grader, finished second.

In poetry, Dominique Servati, a fifth-grader, finished first. Sara Lavin, grade seven, finished second. In declamation, Danielle Vescio, grade six, finished second and Evan Gregorius, also grade six, finished third.

In impromptu, Mike Weaver, grade seven, finished second and Nicki Lundberg, grade seven, finished third.

Thomas Kalnas won the National Geographic Bee competition at Holy Child Catholic School in Bridgeville and has qualified to compete at Shippensburg University in the State National Geographic Bee Competition. The state winner will advance to the national competition in Washington, DC.
