Carey and Cannon needn't confirm; Lohan and liquor ad; Muti to direct Chicago Symphony
Tuesday, May 06, 2008
Can Mariah Carey, above, and Nick Cannon keep a secret?

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey have yet to utter a word about their reported marriage.

But they don't have to. Everybody else and their mommas already have confirmed it.

People has talked to Nick's brother, Gabriel, and the mother of the florist who arranged the flowers for the wedding said the nuptials took place April 30 on the Caribbean island of Eleuthera.

That means the two had known each other about a month, because word is they hooked up after Nick played Mariah's love interest in the video for her song, "Bye, Bye," which was shot March 26.

The new bride who doesn't want to talk about her trip down the aisle backed out of yesterday's scheduled taping of "The View."

We are all for keeping our business out of the street, but this thing of not saying whether you are or aren't married is a bit much.

Shoot, Janet Jackson kept her last marriage a secret until the divorce.

Just because Lindsay Lohan has had trouble with alcohol and drugs in the past doesn't mean she intends to be the poster child for ads for those ignition devices meant to keep the inebriated from taking the wheel.

LiLo is hitting back after her DUI mug shot was used in an ad in USA Today that was reportedly paid for by the liquor industry.

The ad says the devices may be good for Linds but not the rest of us. Photos of the "rest of us" in the ad include a bride and groom toasting, folks at a bar drinking martinis and some guys having beer with their meal.

Blair Berk, the attorney for the trying-to-comeback-kid, issued a statement: "USA Today is idiotic for running such an irresponsible advertisement, suggesting that drinking and driving is some kind of American 'tradition' we should protect. Not identifying that this ad was paid for by the liquor industry is profoundly reckless."

In other LiLo news, word is she has already shown up on the set of "Ugly Betty" to tape the first of eight episodes.

You know folks have been buzzing about this possibility since she got out of rehab.

Britney Spears' little sis, Jamie Lynn, had a baby shower this past weekend in Louisiana.

B.S. was there, as were about 30 guests, reports People.

Paparazzi tried their best to crash the party, flying overhead in helicopters. But sheriffs were stationed at the gates to halt the land attack.

Lord have mercy!

If we were working on "Quantum of Solace," the new James Bond flick, we'd just join the crew of another film.

A 58-year-old technician was seriously injured when he was stabbed during a domestic dispute. It didn't happen on the set, but still ...

This comes after two incidents last month, when a stuntman was seriously injured on the set and the film's Aston Martin ended up in Lake Garda, Italy, after skidding off the road.

Usher, his wife, Tameka Foster and their infant son, Usher Raymond V, will appear on the Father's Day cover of Essence, reports Eurweb.com.

But unlike some folks, Usher is not exploiting his baby boy for a little change.

"In no way would I ever pimp out my child for money," he tells Page Six.

Seems some folks were speculating that he sold the pictures, so Usher had to respond.

"I am livid that people talk about my child," he said. "What makes you a man more than being a father to your child?"

We don't know but we sure wish a lot more guys would "man up" and accept their daddy duties.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association yesterday named maestro Riccardo Muti as its next music director, the 10th conductor to hold the prestigious post. Muti, 66, signed a five-year contract to serve as music director beginning in September of the 2010-2011 season. The post has been vacant since Daniel Barenboim retired in 2006. Muti, a native of Naples, Italy, first led the CSO as a guest conductor at the Ravinia Festival in 1973, but didn't return to Chicago until last year.
