Angeline Rose Baroni of Bridgeville competed in a bowling league until seven years ago, when it disbanded because many of its members were getting too old to bowl. She was 93; they were in their 40s or 50s.

Now 100 years old, Mrs. Baroni doesn't bowl anymore, but she still follows the Pirates on TV, does crossword puzzles and bakes her specialties -- Russian tortes, lady locks and pizzelles.
She was born on April 26, 1908, the eldest of John and Frances Pletersek's five children. The family lived on Sygan Hill in South Fayette, and she attended a schoolhouse in Morgan, where she learned to speak English (they spoke Slovenian at home). She finished eighth grade and went to work as a nanny for a doctor in East Liberty.
In 1929, she eloped to Pittsburgh by train with Larry Baroni.
Two years later, they were remarried at St. Barbara Church in Bridgeville.
The couple had three daughters: Joanne Lewis, who died in 1997, Lucille Mosur of Bridgeville and Janet Cusick of Valparaiso, Ind. Mr. Baroni died in 1959.
Mrs. Baroni, an expert seamstress who made many of her daughters' dresses, attended beauty school and was a hairdresser for a time. She also worked many years at Surburban Cleaners, retiring at age 78 after breaking her hip.
She celebrated recently with more than 100 friends and relatives, including her seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
