Q: With Gilbert Brown being recognized as a super-athletically gifted player who is known to be a scorer and probably recruited for those reasons, if given more minutes, do you think he can become one of the top freshmen in the country? In your opinion, do you think Dixon is doing the right thing by keeping his minutes limited or should he give him the necessary minutes to showcase the talent that got him to be Pitt's top recruit the year he came?

Todd Bryant, Washington, D.C.

FITTIPALDO: Brown is doing a nice job in the current role Dixon is asking him to fill. His job in the Oklahoma State game was to make sure James Anderson did not score when he was in the game. Brown and Mike Cook held Anderson to eight points. Mission accomplished.

Brown can score when he has the minutes to produce, but he is playing behind Cook, a senior, who happens to be a guy who averages in double figures. It's actually a pretty good situation for Brown to be in. He is still young and can learn behind Cook this season and be all the better for it next season.

Brown is averaging about 15 minutes a game. He has to make the most of those minutes. Brown is not a finished product by any means. He can do a better job of rebounding and his shot is still rounding into form. I think he'll be one of Pitt's best players next season, but he's not ready to be one of the top freshmen in the country now. If he was, Dixon would be playing him more.
