2007 All-Area Soccer: The Girls' Teams

Girls' Player of the Year

Mallory Schaffer ... Hampton, midfielder, junior. ... A three-year starter, Schaffer earned all-state honors for the second season by scoring 26 goals. She has 52 in her career and is being recruited by Penn State, Virginia and William & Mary.

Girls' All-Area team

MacKenzie Creehan ... Peters Township, forward, senior. ... An all-state selection, she had 27 goals and 27 assists while helping Peters Township to a 22-2 overall mark.

Amanda Sharbaugh ... Knoch, forward, senior. ... Scored 33 goals and 11 assists. Sharbaugh scored 111 career goals and was a four-year starter. Will play at Gannon.

Brittany Pfaff ... South Park, forward, senior. ... Led the Eagles to WPIAL and PIAA Class AA titles with 27 goals and 19 assists. A four-year starter, she might walk on in college.

Jonna Handra ... South Allegheny, forward, senior. ... She ended her career as the WPIAL's third all-time leading goal scorer (178). A four-year starter, she is a UNC-Charlotte recruit.

Samantha Kovarik ... Mt. Lebanon, midfielder, junior. ... An all-state pick, Kovarik led Mt. Lebanon to an 18-3-2 record by scoring 7 goals and recording 13 assists.

Adrienne Steckel ... Pine-Richland, midfielder, senior. ... An Akron recruit and four-year starter, Steckel helped Pine-Richland to the WPIAL and PIAA playoffs in all four years.

Christie Kimball ... Pine-Richland, goalkeeper, junior. ... A regional all-America and all-state selection after posting 11 shutouts. A three-year starter, she has 36 career shutouts.

Nicole Petrillo ... Greensburg Central Catholic, midfielder, senior. ... Led the WPIAL with 50 goals this year and finished her career with a school-record 167. She is a Duquesne recruit.

Aly Walker ... Upper St. Clair, defender, junior. ... Named all-state after anchoring a defense that allowed just 28 goals in 24 games and collected 10 shutouts.

Jessica Sharik ... Norwin, forward, senior. ... Scored 34 goals and had 16 assists. A Duquesne recruit, Sharik is Norwin's career assist leader (51) and points leader (120).

Kayla Eckman ... Freeport, forward, junior. ... Already committed to Ohio State, Eckman scored 32 goals and 21 assists while earning all-state honors in her second season as a starter.
