Q: You did not list a coach for your all time team. Who would it be? After discussions with my friends, we would go with Jackie Sherrill. Johnny, the first time around, was tough to pass up, though. Jimmie Johnson would be an assistant.
Chris Bruno
Alexandria, Va.
Zeise: A coach, yes, a coach. Hmmm, Winning percentage, Jackie Sherrill was the highest, but his body of work was A very short period of time. That's why I'd go with Dr. John B. Sutherland (also known as "Jock") who was 111-20-12 from 1924-1938 and won five national titles as your head coach. I think you would have Jimmy Johnson as your defensive coordinator and Walt Harris could be your offensive coordinator and quarterback's coach and Dave Wannstedt would be your defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator and Joe Moore would be your offensive line coach. That would be a pretty good start to a very impressive staff.....
Q: I know it is 3 games too early, but do you like LeSean McCoy's chances getting voted Big East Freshman of the Year? Will more big-time OL recruits be interested in blocking for McCoy, Bostick, and all of Pitt's WR & RB talent? If only we had not had those injuries this year...
Steve Northrup
Jackson, Ms
Zeise: I can't think of any reason why he will not only win the freshman (I think it is called newcomer) of the year award, but he should win it in a landslide. The only other guy I can think of who should even get some consideration is Connecticut's quarterback, who is a junior but he is in his first year because he's from a junior college. But if McCoy doesn't win it, it would be a crime. And I'd even go this far -- if he has three 100-yard games to close the season and he isn't on the All-Big East team, then it is a fraud because he's clearly been one of the two best -- and most consistent -- running backs in the Big East this year. And you'd think having a premier back and running game will help bring offensive line recruits to Pitt, but we'll see.
Q: During the last few games on television, I swear that I saw Rod Rutherford on the Pitt sideline. Is that true, or do I need to go and see the eye doctor?
Paul G.
Chicago
Zeise: No, you don't need glasses but you should read this Q&A more because we've addressed this before!! (Just joking) -- Rod is a student assistant coach of some sort and he works with the quarterbacks and the offense so, yes, that is him on the sidelines.
