Pirates fill top posts
Wednesday, November 07, 2007

The Pirates today filled two of the most important positions in their front office, naming Greg Smith scouting director and Kyle Stark player development director.

They also promoted Bryan Minniti to director of baseball operations.

Smith, 41, worked the past three seasons as a special assignment scout for the Detroit Tigers. For the eight years before that, he was Detroit's scouting director, doubling for three years in that span as the team's player development director.

Stark, 29, spent the past four years in Cleveland's baseball operations department.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
