Submit your Pitt football question

Q: I know Pitt has a lot of young players, but are the Panthers just falling apart? Do you think the coaching staff should just write off the season and play as many freshmen and sophomores to get the team ready for next season?

Demetrius Montanaro, Tucson, Arizona

ZEISE: I'd say by the looks of it that yes, the Panthers are falling apart. They have lost four in a row and with consecutive games against Cincinnati and Louisville coming up, it's probable that the losing streak will grow to six. But this is college football and a lot can happen in a short period of time and teams are quickly able to change the direction of their season, for the good or the bad. If Pitt could beat Cincinnati this week, perhaps they gain some confidence and it grows and they finish strong (strong being 3-3 with three close losses over the next six). It doesn't look likely, but it could happen. Which brings me to the second point, Pitt needs to put the best 22 players on the field regardless of their class, their age or their experience. The 22 guys who best give the team a chance to win a football game THIS YEAR because that's really what the focus should be.

Q: I know it has been beaten to death about the last 2 plays, but Kiski Area High School (Pitt starts 3 defensive players who played there) during their WPIAL dominance of the late 60's and early 70's had a play from the 1 or 2 yard line where the QB faked a handoff to a RB and rolled out to either side and took it in himself. They scored EVERY TIME, the QB virtually untouched. Why can't Pitt do something similar?

Frank Losasso, Myrtle Beach, S.C.

ZEISE: I'm going to go out on a limb and say the scouting is a little more advanced for college football in 2007 than it was in WPIAL football in 1968 so the success rate for that -- or any -- particular play would be a little less than 100 percent. And one thing about having a pure drop back passer who isn't very mobile -- like Pat Bostick -- is that any play which involves the quarterback running is probably never going to be in the play book.

Q: Since this has been the craziest College Football season on memory; yet, things could get even wackier, what are the chances of this scenario? Pitt runs the table the rest of the way out, UConn loses at least 2 games in Big East action so Pitt represents the Big East in the BCS and plays Michigan who lost to Appalachian State. Six weeks ago who would have guessed South Florida would be number 2 in the first BCS Poll of the year. All the excitement this generates convinces Pryor to enroll at Pitt!

John Pecic, Atlanta

ZEISE: Um, none. But I give you a lot of credit for being so optimistic and still believing in your team.
