DALE VINCENT
Sound: like something from the early '80s -- Vincent said he was influenced by Van Halen and KISS, as well as others. The new album, "Blue Sky Flyin'," is reminiscent of a Steely Dan record. Vincent said, "I'm still into those guys. A lot of people have said they hear a little bit of Steely Dan in there."
The Player: Vincent recorded the entire album by himself, in his home studio, and he played multiple instruments doing it. He was a member of Icecream-Headache, which released "Dropped as a Baby" in 1997.
Recording Process: Vincent said it took over a year. "You know how it is in modern-day life, with how busy you are, and I have kids and family. Everybody was saying, 'You got to put out a solo album.' I finally looked at my calender and treated it like a job. I have a home studio, and I would pick one day per week, and then I would show up at 9 a.m. Then I would work four to five hours a day."
Where to get the album: It's available on iTunes, www.cdbaby.com or www.dalevincent.com.
Tough to get gigs: Vincent said there were less venues for musicians to play at than there were when he first started playing. He said, "It used to be easier to get gigs. I really don't play a lot of live gigs supporting my album."
So how does he pay the bills?: "It's all music-related. My income is generated from teaching guitar lessons. I have a recording studio that people use, and I also do some gigs."
Release party: It could be sometime in the fall, perhaps October. "That's definitely in the future, there's no doubt," Vincent said. "But it's going to take some time to put a band together to do that stuff."
