People on the Move

Profile of the Week

Gerry Balbier

Job: Vice President, Innovative Programs at Apangea Learning, Inc.

Age: 45

Favorite stock: Gemesa Corp, a world leader in wind-turbine manufacturing, which is building a factory in Ebensburg.

Someday I want to: Learn how to swim. Go to an FA Cup Final in England. Paint the kitchen.

Interesting/useless facts about me: I grew up in England. I can't swim. I like French people.

Favorite Movie: "Das Boot" for its honest portrayal of war and human spirit.

What inspires you? My son's laugh. People who take risks, and overcome the odds.

Person you'd most like to have dinner with: My wonderful wife Samantha, and then a whiskey and cigar with Winston Churchill.

What do you like about Pittsburgh? Its quality of life: parks, neighborhoods, topography. The big secret is that Pittsburgh already has "turned the corner," we just don't know it yet.
