Hardest job/why?: Parenting. Books, family, and friends are helpful but there is nothing like living it.

Accounting

Schneider Downs announced the promotion of Mary D. Richter to shareholder.

Accountant Robert D. Barron, former chief financial officer for USX Federal Credit Union, has joined Cottrill, Arbutina Professional Services as an auditor.

Hill, Barth, & King LLC said that Eric C. Hilliard has joined as a senior accountant.

Carbis Walker LLP announced the addition of senior manager Brian Kassalen to its manufacturing team.

Advertising

FSC Marketing Communications has added Jaime Carter, Chelsey Flaherty, Valerie Scandrol and Cassandra Smolcic to its team of account associates. Carter was hired as a public relations account associate, and works on the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, Eckert Seamans, Bear Metallurgical Co. and Gulf Chemical & Metallurgical Corp. accounts. Flaherty will contribute to numerous client accounts, including PPG Industrial Coatings, Bravo Design Group, Transitions Latin America, and Transitions Global. Scandrol was hired as a marketing account associate and will work on several major accounts, including Transitions National Retail and Transitions North America. Smolcic is a design associate who contributes to the Laurel Highlands Visitors Bureau, Boy Scouts of America, Medrad and Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership accounts.

Associations/Organizations

Penina Kessler Lieber, of counsel with Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP, recently received two appointments. She was appointed as the At-Large Woman Governor to the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA). She will serve a three-year term. She was also appointed by the Federal District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania to its pilot program for mandated Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR). Lieber will serve as a mediator and as an early neutral evaluator.

Lisa M. Wampler, attorney, Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman, was elected as one of the directors on the board for the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) for 2006-2007.

The Executive Committee of the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project was re-elected with Fitting Group's vice president of finance & operations, Belinda Yeager, at the helm as president of the organization. The other re-elected members of PUMP's executive committee include J.J. Richardson, attorney at Thorp Reed & Armstrong, LLP, as vice president, David Duffus, director of forensic & litigation services group at Parente Randolph Accountants and Consultants, as treasurer and Kathryn J. Heidemann, program coordinator at The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, as secretary.

Sylvia Lynn was recently elected vice president of the Volunteer Administrators of Southwestern Pennsylvania (VASP). She has been the Volunteer Services Coordinator for four years at The Lutheran Service Society (LSS), which provides social services that enhance the quality of life and promote the dignity and independence of persons in need.

The Postal Customer Council named its 2006-2007 executive board members. President, Pam Kriley, Duquesne University; vice president, Maureen Kennedy, Federated Investors; treasurer, Ted Swoger, Marketplace Direct. Other board members named include: Rich Filar, Neopost Hasler; Jerry Sterling, Pitney Bowes; Tina Rukavina, Mellon Client Service Center; Brian Henciak, Pittsburgh Mailing; Cindy Capozzoli, Mid Atlantic Data Services; Bob Blazina, OCE Business Services; and Jane Rahenkamp, United States Postal Service.

Banking, Finance

Christopher B. (Kip) Sobel was named executive vice president, consumer and small business banking for National City Bank of Pennsylvania.

The board of directors of F.N.B. Corp. elected Arthur J. Rooney, II as a director. Rooney is president of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Engineering

Michael Baker Jr. Inc. announced that Earl Neiderhiser has joined its transportation practice and will be responsible for coordinating cost estimating on major projects.

SAI Consulting Engineers Inc. hired Matthew Cramer, Sean McKeever and Jeremy McClain as highway engineers; Matthew Skovera, design reviewer; Randy McClain, drafter, highway department; Eric Nardecchia, structure engineer; Craig Boruch, drafter, structures department; and John P. (JP) Cleary, Jr., structure engineer.

Health and Medicine

Allegheny General Hospital appointed Patrick J. DeMeo, M.D., as chairman, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Insurance Brokerage

Paul King joined Simpson & McCrady LLC as a producer.

Law

Robb Leonard Mulvihill said Paulo Nzambi has joined the firm as an associate. He will focus his practice on employment and civil rights, commercial litigation and extra-contractual insurance litigation.

Eckert Seamans Cherin and Mellott announced that Robert A. Graci, a member of its litigation division, was named to lead and expand its appellate practice group.

Manufacturing

SMS Demag Inc. appointed Eduardo Carballal vice president of the electrical engineering and process automation division and William Emling vice president of the steelmaking and continuous casting division.

Marketing

Brady Communications hired Dawn Patton as writer and Brian Sava as employment resource manager.

Diskriter Inc. appointed Randy A. Baker president and chief operations officer.

Euro RSCG Magnet hired Melissa White as a new associate account executive.

NAI Pittsburgh Commercial hired Gary C. McGovern and Bill Erdner as associates.

The boards of GNC Corp. and General Nutrition Centers Inc. have tapped John Ranelli, former chairman of an optical and jewelry company, to serve as a director.

Technology

Al Catanzarite was promoted to director of sales and marketing, Western Region at IPLogic.

Mark Dye has joined Vivisimo as vice president of business development.

ECI Telecom announced the appointment of Tony Scarfo, former VP at Juniper Networks, to lead the Pittsburgh-based Data Networking Division. This division is focused on edge router global sales and development.

Nancy L. Rackoff, partner, Tener Van Kirk Wolf & Moore, P.C. was elected to The Pittsburgh Foundation's board of directors. Rackoff specializes in estate and trust planning and administration.
