Allegheny begins voting machine education drive
Wednesday, April 19, 2006

Allegheny County today launched a massive campaign to teach hundreds of thousands of registered voters how to use its new touch-screen voting machine, the ES&S iVotronic, by next month's primary election.

County officials are asking all businesses, organizations and media outlets to put links on their Web sites to the county's voter education page.

The page will list information on demonstration sessions at more than 100 locations across the county. It currently features a training video for the iVotronic.

Chief Executive Dan Onorato will appear on WQED-TV at 7:30 p.m. tonight to display the iVotronic and discuss the county's outreach efforts.

From tomorrow until the May 16 primary election, there will be daily demonstrations on the first floor of the Allegheny County Courthouse, Grant Street, Downtown, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Also starting tomorrow, Comcast will feature a two-minute, "on demand" demonstration video for its subscribers.

The county also is holding 40 training sessions, each more than two hours in length, for its 5,500 poll workers.

On Monday, voters can start calling 412-350-VOTE to learn more information.
