Chris Crytzer, a freelance writer and principal of Crytzer Communication, a marketing communication company in Robinson, was a winner in the Idaho Potato Commission Healthy Lifestyle Tips Contest. Her submission was selected from hundreds of entries. Her entry:
"I save magazine sections that show exercises, such as sit-ups and stretches. Then, when I can't get out to do my exercise routine because the kids are sick or there's too much snow, I put together a half-hour program (using these pages) that can be done inside the home.
"What's more, if I have to pick up a prescription for a sick child, I always go for a walk while I wait."



The Pittsburgh Airport Area Chamber of Commerce presented the Jenny Award to Robert E. Harper, of Springer Bush & Perry PC, at its annual Gala celebration Oct. 7 at the Hyatt Regency Pittsburgh International Airport.
Named for the World War I biplane that earned a reputation for rugged reliability, the Jenny Award is presented as a token of the chamber's gratitude to those members "who have worked diligently to help the organization achieve its objectives."
Harper, a Moon native, helped create the chamber's Enterprise Foundation and guided the foundation board. He also has been an active board member since 2002.
He is the 40th recipient of the Jenny Award. Other 2004 Jenny nominees were Ruth Delach, of the Pittsburgh Technical Institute/Boyd School; Gail Reichl, of CGR International Consultants; and Olga Watkins, of Elite Catering Inc.
The Gala marked the 100th anniversary of the organization's founding.



Robert C. Eiler, of Crescent, was installed as senior vice commander of the Pennsylvania Department of Veterans of Foreign Wars at a convention in Philadelphia.
He is the recipient of the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Air Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters and the Parachutist Badge.
Eiler has served on a variety of VFW committees, including programs focusing on POW-MIA and homeless veterans' issues. He is a life member of VFW Robert W. Young Post 885, where he has served as post commander three times, twice as an all-state commander.



Montour School District athletic director Mitch Galiyas has been recognized by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association as a certified master athletic administrator.
The certification process involved an evaluation of his educational background, experience, NIAAA leadership courses and professional contributions.
Galiyas is among 13 people from Pennsylvania and 207 in the nation to have achieved this distinction.
The NIAAA is a professional organization of 50 state athletic administrator associations.



Marie Marsilio has been named the Robert Whalen Award recipient for volunteering 188 hours of service to Villa St. Joseph, a nonprofit charitable organization providing care in a residential setting to long-term care patients in Baden.
Marsilio, of Baden, is a member of St. John parish, where she is financial secretary for the Sons of Columbus and a member of Christian Mothers of Baden.
She volunteers at the Neighborhood Cafe and Gift Shop, organizes monthly bake sales for Villa St. Joseph Auxiliary, coordinates the flea markets, assists with residents' picnics and games and sells raffle tickets. She has been a volunteer since 1997, when Villa St. Joseph opened.
The award is presented annually to the volunteer with the most hours of service. It is named after Robert Whalen, one of the first winners.



Vicky and Ron Caldwell, who operate a dairy farm in North Sewickley, have been honored as Farmers of the Year by the Beaver County Conservation District.
Their daughter, Emily Caldwell, is the Beaver County Dairy Princess.
Also honored at the annual program Oct. 13 were Jerry, James, Betty, Rebecca and Jessica Tillia, of Wampum, who all received the Environmental Education Award. Mike Alfery, of Greensburg, won the Special Service Award for his services at the annual maple syrup festival.
