Barry Rohrssen made it official yesterday. He is remaining at Pitt as the new associate head coach under Jamie Dixon.
Rohrssen had interviewed Thursday at St. John's and was offered more than $200,000 to join Norm Roberts' staff. When he returned Friday to Pittsburgh, Pitt officials offered him the promotion and sealed the deal with a significant pay raise that made Rohrssen one of the highest paid assistant coaches in the Big East.
The man largely responsible for luring some of the top players from New York City will remain at Pitt for at least one more season. The new job title will make Rohrssen, 43, more attractive for a head coaching position after next season.
Rohrssen was unavailable for comment because he was entertaining recruit Alex Galindo, of Newark, N.J., one of the top high school senior forwards in the country. Pitt is among Galindo's final three choices.
