Alex Galindo, a highly rated high school senior from St. Benedict's Prep in New Jersey, will visit Pitt this weekend.
Galindo, a 6-foot-6 small forward who originally committed to UTEP, reopened the recruiting process late last month after UTEP coach Billy Gillespie took a job at Texas A&M. Galindo also will visit Kansas the first week of May and has a tentative visit scheduled with Rutgers.
St. Benedict's Prep coach Danny Hurley said Galindo will take his time because he only visited UTEP last year and wants to make sure his decision is thought through.
Pitt does not have a scholarship available for next season, which means a current player or one of the three incoming recruits would have to leave if Galindo signs.
"They're recruiting Alex like they believe they'll have a scholarship," Hurley said.
Galindo is rated the No. 65 high school senior in the country by Rivals.com and the No. 11 small forward. He plays the same position as incoming junior-college recruit John DeGroat. The Panthers need a replacement for departed senior Jaron Brown at small forward.
