PIAA Hockey: Elizabeth Forward scores win

Elizabeth Forward edged Steel Valley, 3-2, in a PIHL Class A Penguin Cup first-round contest at the Rostraver Ice Garden.

The Warriors (15-6-1) were led by Jeremy Delmaster's two goals. Gary Hegerly scored the other Elizabeth Forward goal.

Steel Valley (10-12) goals were scored by Tony Bonacroso and John Preffer.

Other games

dot.gif Quaker Valley (16-6) routed Conemaugh Valley (10-13), 8-1, in a Class A game at the Airport Ice Arena in Moon. Ben Herring scored five goals. The Quakers scored twice in the final 20 seconds of the first period on goals by Herring and Jesse Taylor for a 3-0 lead. Sam Hairston had four assists. Quakers goalie Jed Michael stopped 21 shots. Quaker Valley held a 38-22 advantage in shots. Other Quaker goals were scored by Martin Larsen and Furman South, who also had two assists.

dot.gif Deer Lakes (14-9) held off a Blackhawk rally in the third period to defeat the Cougars (11-8-3), 7-5, in a Class A contest at the Beaver County Ice Arena.

Jake Polas led Blackhawk with three goals, including two in the third period when the Cougars rallied from a four-goal deficit to trail 6-5. Sean McIntyre led the Lancers with three goals. McIntyre scored on a power play with 47 seconds left in the second period for a 4-1 Deer Lakes lead. McIntyre also scored an empty-net goal in the final minute. Jonas Elliasson added two goals for Deer Lakes and added two assists. Andreas Backstrom scored a goal with an assist for the Lancers. Matt DiSanti scored a goal with four assists.
