PITTSBURGH, May 28, 2008 – The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the region’s largest daily newspaper, has signed an agreement that will capitalize on its premier distribution network by delivering the Tribune-Review newspaper to homes in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties. Terms of the distribution agreement were not disclosed.
“Our service consistently beats industry benchmarks, and we're glad for the chance to expand and to deliver to more people,” said Diana Block, Co-Publisher and General Manager of the Post-Gazette. “This is a commonsense and ‘green’ way for us to further strengthen and develop our distribution system throughout southwestern Pennsylvania. We'll be growing our business and helping to conserve fuel,” said Block.
In an arrangement common to the newspaper industry whereby a dominant delivery system distributes multiple newspapers in a primary geographic area, the Post-Gazette will begin to deliver the Tribune-Review via the Post-Gazette’s distribution centers and adult carriers by no later than July 1, 2008. In addition to distributing its own newspapers seven days a week, the Post-Gazette also currently distributes subscriptions of The Wall Street Journal in the same distribution area. The Post-Gazette has 16 distribution centers located throughout the region.
In addition to growing the Post-Gazette's business, the move helps both papers cope with rising costs and resource conservation without affecting strong customer service. There will be no change in the timing or locations in which newspapers are delivered. This type of operations and delivery agreement will have no impact on subscriptions, advertising or editorial content of either publication. This type of arrangement is solely based on the opportunity to leverage the Post-Gazette’s larger distribution system. Other similar synergistic possibilities regarding delivery systems are being discussed between the two papers.
